Police have arrested a man who allegedly threatened officers with a machete in an incident this afternoon.

A police spokesman said that at about 4.30pm, officers attended a residence on Happy Valley Road in Pembroke.

“The officers approached the residence and attempted to speak with a male occupant who was the subject of their inquiries,” the spokesman said.

“Upon seeing the police, the male took up a shovel and shouted at police not to enter the property.

“He then went into the residence but returned carrying machetes, and approached the officers in a threatening manner. One of the officers produced their Taser and the male retreated into the residence.”

The spokesman said the man was subsequently arrested for threatening words and carrying an offensive weapon without lawful authority.
