Nic Narraway retains national time-trial title
Nicholas Narraway successfully defended his National Time-Trial Championship on Southside Road in St David’s on Thursday.
The 24-year-old conquered a star-studded open men’s division and sweltering heat to win the event for the second time and reaffirm his status as the island’s top cyclist in the discipline.
Narraway has now put himself in position to achieve an impressive double in the National Road Race Championships at Clearwater Beach on Sunday — a feat that eluded him last year.
Kaden Hopkins, who represented Bermuda along with Narraway at the Pan American Road Championships in Colombia in March, finished runner-up with Conor White third in the open men’s division.
Only 40 sec separated Narraway from Hopkins, with White a farther 17 sec off the lead pace.
A new open women’s champion was crowned this year with Gabriella Arnold achieving a landslide victory.
Arnold finished more than two minutes ahead of runner-up Panzy Olander, who claimed second for the second straight year, with Charlotte Millington covering the course nearly a minute adrift.
Hanah Cannon, who claimed a maiden national time-trial title last year, was not back to defend her crown this year.
Steven Smith claimed men’s masters honours, with Mark Robinson taking second and Ian Henderson third to round off the podium finishers.
Marie Dore conquered the women’s masters field, with multiple Bermuda Half Marathon Derby winner Ashley Couper claiming second and Caroline Black third.
Jackson Langley won the Junior Male division followed by Dylan Eiselt and Keon Stevens in second and third respectively.
Naomi MacGuinness beat sole rival Kelise Wade to claim Junior Female honours.
Colette Durkin, daughter of reigning Bermuda Half Marathon Derby women’s champion Maddie Durkin, won the Junior 13-14 division, with Iris Duda taking second and Evelyn Fahy third.
Owen Fosker reigned supreme in the Junior 11-12 division, with Eva Desjardins finishing runner-up and Austen Carr third to round off the podium finishers.
Tatem Carr beat sole rival Alistair Friend in a two-horse battle for Junior 10 and Under honours.
