Camp registration goes online – but with some technical hitches
Registration for summer-day camps via the online Camp Connect platform opened yesterday, the Department of Sport and Recreation announced.
The launch was delayed from April 27 to fine-tune the system. The department said some users had run into “intermittent issues with the system” which were being treated as a priority by technical teams.
Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, said recently in response to queries about online problems last year: “We are using some additional resources when it comes to technology including internal resources with the digital transformation team that has been doing good work.”
Registration remains open until May 15, with the lottery introduced for fairness and efficiency set to take place on May 25.
Mr Darrell acknowledged “the frustration these disruptions may cause” and said the matter was being taken seriously.
He added: “Our teams are working with the digital transformation team and are fully engaged in resolving the issue, and we remain committed to ensuring a fair and reliable registration process for all families.”
Diallo Rabain, the Minister of the Cabinet Office and Digital Innovation, apologised for the delay and inconvenience.
He added: “Our technical teams are actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
“Initial investigations suggest the disruption may be linked to a cloud-based service outage overseas, which has affected how traffic is being managed across regions.
“While temporary measures have been put in place to keep the system running, we are continuing to monitor performance closely and work towards a full and permanent resolution.”
