A school in Hamilton that caters to mature learners will temporarily close its doors on Wednesday for the funeral of the late former premier, Sir John Swan.

The Adult Education School said that for many years, Sir John had been a key supporter of the institution, founded in 1958 as the first alternative school in Bermuda.

Arlene Brock, managing director, said: “Like all of Bermuda, we are so grateful for Sir John’s widespread contributions, and we offer his family and colleagues our deep condolences.”

The school will reopen for classes as usual on Thursday.

Sir John, the island’s longest-serving premier and a successful realtor and property developer, passed away this month at the age of 90.
