North Village take on Devonshire Colts in Friendship Trophy
Devonshire Colts and North Village will be hoping to carry their league form into the Friendship Trophy preliminary round tonight (8pm).
Village, one of the most successful teams in the history of the competition, had the misfortune of being drawn to play in the initial stage and have to beat Colts to progress to the quarter-finals.
Calvin Dill Jr, the Village interim coach whose side have recorded five league wins in a row, declared his players ready for the task against Colts.
“The boys are ready and we’ll put it out all on the field on Thursday night,” Dill said.
“Other than those on duty with the national cricket team [Terryn Fray, Jonte Smith and Tre Manders], we have all the players available for selection.
“We have to take what comes our way and deal with the situation at hand. We just have to play the way we've been playing and hope that the team pulls off the win.”
Colts coach Ray Jones predicts an exciting battle between the two sides who occupy the top two spots in the Premier Division.
“We’re looking to see if we can transfer some of the league form into the cup competitions,” Jones said.
“We know it’s going to be a daunting task but the boys are all up for it. We would have loved to be one of the teams already in the quarter-finals, but if we are to have success in this cup, we have to take the long route.
“Village have slightly better league form with five straight wins. For us, we have a loss and a draw in between, so for the neutrals it should be a game worth coming to watch.”
