The Bermuda Sea Cadets Corps held its annual sponsored row and trash clean-up, and is inviting the public to help it reach a goal of $20,000.

Cadets and Junior Cadets completed a long-distance row and kayak around St George’s Harbour on Friday night and Saturday morning. Working together as a unit, they put their maritime training to the test.

After the row, they carried out a trash clean‑up throughout public areas of St George’s, reinforcing the corps’ commitment to environmental responsibility and community service.

The participants are still collecting pledges from family, friends and community members to support their efforts and fund the continuing operation of the unit. While full tallies have not yet been reported, $6,000 has been counted to date.

Money raised will help cover training, equipment, safety gear and programme opportunities that develop leadership, responsibility and seamanship skills in young people.

Lieutenant Commander Michael Frith, Royal Navy Reserve, the Commander of the Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps, said: “The sponsored Row and Trashathon reflects the values of the Sea Cadets — teamwork, service and care for our marine environment — while giving our cadets an active role in supporting the organisation they are proud to be part of.”

The organisation is calling on the public to get involved by sponsoring a cadet, making a donation or supporting the event in kind. It said that contributions help to ensure the continued delivery of a safe, structured and enriching programme for Bermuda’s young people.

The corps is fully volunteer-led, ensuring every dollar raised goes directly to supporting the cadets.

“This incredible programme wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community,” Lieutenant Commander Michael Frith added.

“Every pledge is an investment in our young people, and in the values of teamwork, service and respect for Bermuda’s marine environment”

Donations and pledges may be made by direct transfer to BNTB 060-166017-0014 — Bermuda Sea Cadet Association, noting “Row and Trashathon” in the payee reference.

Donations can also be made by contacting a cadet directly and offering to support their efforts.
