Afiniti founder Zia Chishti quits more business posts

Zia Chishti, former CEO of Afiniti

The founder of a Bermudian-based billion-dollar data software company has quit his posts in another business that has shares in the firm.

Zia Chishti resigned his roles at investment holders TRG and its subsidiaries.

The 50-year-old stepped down as chairman, chief executive officer and director of Afiniti earlier this month after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him by a former employee.

A TRG spokesman said: “The boards of directors of TRG Pakistan Ltd and The Resource Group International Limited announce that Zia Chishti has resigned from all his roles at TRG and its affiliates, including as the CEO and a director of TRGP, and as the chairman and a director of TRGI, effective immediately.

“This follows Mr Chishti’s resignation on November 18 as the CEO, chairman, and a director of Afiniti, Ltd.

“TRGI is a shareholder of Afiniti.”

The TRG website said that the firm is “an investment holding company”.

Tatiana Spottiswoode, an ex-employee at Afiniti, made allegations against Mr Chishti in testimony before a House of Representatives judiciary committee.

She accused him of beating her after he allegedly pressured her into having sex with him on a work trip to Brazil in 2017.

Ms Spottiswoode also alleged he sexually harassed her.

She told the committee, set up to examine employee non-disclosure agreements, that her employment contract and a later referral to arbitration made it impossible for her to make the allegations public.

A spokesman for Afiniti, which earlier announced it wanted to employ 1,000 people on the island, denied the allegations this month and said Mr Chishti “strongly disputes all accusations against him”.

It was announced last week that Leslie R Caldwell, a former assistant attorney-general of the United States Department of Justice’s criminal division, will lead an investigation into “the conduct” of Mr Chishti.
