A lawyer who was Called to the Bermuda Bar said that her journey was “eight years in the making”.

Kyra Dunstan, 26, said she did not initially see herself as a lawyer — but now hoped to have a long career in the field.

She said: “I look forward to a long and fulfilling career and hope to inspire and set an example for future generations throughout by representing this esteemed profession with integrity and professionalism.”

Ms Dunstan, from Smith’s, was welcomed to the legal community during a ceremony before Puisne Judge Larry Mussenden on Friday.

She was surrounded by family and colleagues.

Ms Dunstan attended Western University in Ontario, Canada, where she graduated in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

She told the court that she took a business law elective while studying for her bachelor’s and fell in love with the field.

She then went on to attend the University of Exeter, in England, where she received her postgraduate law degree in 2021.

Ms Dunstan admitted that she experienced some difficulties while at school, including the Covid-19 pandemic, which “completely shifted the academic landscape during my first year”.

But she said: “Through it all I have been dedicated, resilient and managed to excel in my studies and career development.”

Ms Dunstan conducted her pupillage at Wakefield Quinn, a law firm that first took her in as an intern in the summer of 2020.

She worked within the corporate, property and litigation sectors for a year, eventually settling in corporate law after her pupillage was completed.

Michelle Stone, a director at Wakefield Quinn, said during the ceremony that Ms Dunstan would be a worthy addition to the legal community.

She said: “Everyone at Wakefield Quinn has been extremely impressed with her capabilities, work ethic and professionalism.

“We have no doubt she will make an exceptional lawyer and a welcome addition to the Bermuda Bar.”

Ms Stone added: “As for her character, it’s difficult to know where to start and harder still to stop.

“She is smart as a whip, intuitive, funny, feisty, loyal and a delight to be around.”
