Sea Cadets get new uniforms in line with Royal Navy standards
Bermuda’s Sea Cadet Corps is starting the training year with a new look after their uniforms were given a modern makeover.
The uniform change happened over the summer with the introduction of the Royal Navy Personal Clothing System rig.
Lieutenant Commander Michael Frith welcomed the new kits and said that they had an impact on morale, as seen in the cadets’ renewed pride and care.
He added: “With this new look, we can already see how great it makes them feel.
“They are proud to be wearing it — and rightly so.”
The RNPCS rig replaces the traditional Number 4 rig, which had been used for more than 30 years.
It aligns the Sea Cadet Corps with the Royal Navy’s standards for dress.
Peter Donnellan, the chairman of the Bermuda Sea Cadet Association, said: “Uniform is a vital part of the Sea Cadet ethos and one of the most significant expenses.
“Thanks to fundraising efforts from the cadets and their families, our generous donors and support from our UK counterparts, we’ve outfitted the corps with higher-quality gear at excellent value, including drill boots, to ensure that they look their best on parade.”
Sue Outerbridge, the chairwoman of the Unit Management Committee, said: “The new uniform looks great and really makes us feel we are part of the Royal Navy family — and the cadets are especially proud of that.”
The cadets have also praised their new uniforms.
Ordinary Cadet Lexi Taylor described hers as being “comfortable” and “well designed,” adding: “I love all the pockets.”
Able Cadet Oca-Ray Brown said: “Sewing badges was a lot of work, but totally worth it — it looks great.”
The Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps starts its training year tomorrow and will host a recruitment night on September 12 at 7pm at the TS Admiral Somers Sea Cadet Building in St George’s.
Girls and boys aged 10 and older, or those turning ten before the end of the year, are eligible to sign up.
