Royal visit: traffic restrictions, temporary BAMZ closure
The Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo is to close for part of Friday as the facility welcomes King Charles III for his visit, which will include a tour of the wildlife and conservation efforts at Trunk Island in Harrington Sound.
BAMZ, which marks its 100th anniversary this year, will reopen to the public at 2pm.
The public can observe the occasion from a viewing area in the parking lot across from the aquarium, with parking on offer at Flatts Cricket Field. Updates will be given on the Government’s official royal visit webpage.
In addition, a special overprint stamp has been released by the Bermuda Post Office to commemorate the occasion.
The limited-edition express stamp, both a functional postal item and a collector’s keepsake, will be available from tomorrow for $35.
Orders may be prepaid for collection or mailing on the day of issue at the BPO and all sub-post offices.
Details are available at the Bermuda Philatelic Bureau site online, or by e-mailing Ideleia Fox at imfox@gov.bm.
Road restrictions and temporary traffic controls are expected for parts of Hamilton, St George’s and Dockyard during the visit.
King’s Square in St George’s will be closed from 7am to noon on Friday.
The public were advised to expect possible delays and encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow the instructions of police and traffic marshals.
The community are encouraged to come out to welcome the Sovereign at King’s Square as well as to City Hall in Hamilton and to Dockyard.
