The Bermuda Police Service thanked Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell for almost 38 years of service as he retired last week.

Mr Cardwell joined the BPS in 1987 and served most recently as a department head within the tactical division.

Na’imah Astwood, the Acting Commissioner of Police, said: “Chief Inspector Cardwell’s commitment was unwavering and his impact was significant.

“He consistently delivered results, even under challenging conditions, and he leaves behind a legacy of service and leadership.”

A BPS spokesman said that Mr Cardwell was described by colleagues as tireless, determined and deeply committed to getting the job done.

The spokesman added: “His leadership on key BPS priorities, including [traffic enforcement programme] Operation Vega, earned him the respect of his peers and the appreciation of the many younger officers he mentored over the years.”
