Defending champion Kenny Leseur picked up his first win of the year on the Moongate Tour in glorious conditions at Tucker’s Point Golf Club on Friday.

The 22-year-old professional shot a superb two-under 68 to finish a shot clear of nearest rival Dwayne Pearman, the only other player to come in under par.

Leseur tore up the front nine, rattling in four birdies to make the turn in full control at three under.

He lost a bit of momentum over the remaining nine holes, which he played at one over after dropping three shots coming in.

However, he would not be denied his moment in the sunshine with a sixth birdie of the round on the penultimate hole proving decisive in his narrow victory.

“I hit a four iron on the green there and two-putted for birdie, which helped me out,” Leseur told The Royal Gazette.

“I hit the ball pretty good and made a few dumb mistakes with wedges that led to bogeys. But other than that I played pretty good and made a good amount of birdies.

“The greens were pretty fast. There is a few holes that were inconsistent. But for the most part they were pretty fast and if you weren’t paying attention they could get away from you for sure.

“My ball striking was good. Probably only hit two loose shots but other than that it was pretty good.”

Order of Merit leader Adam Perry shot an even par 70 to round off the top three in the field, a shot back of Leseur.

The professional has now finished in the top three in every round of the championship to date having won the season opener at Port Royal Golf Course and finished tied for third in the second medal event at Five Forts Golf Club.

Dan Roy was top amateur and fourth overall at two over, while tour co-founder and professional Chaka DeSilva finished a shot back to round off the top five in the field.

Professional Ebonie Cox was the top female in the field and ninth overall at six over.

*Bermuda’s Camiko Smith and Daniel Augustus missed the cut in this week’s Motocaddy Championship at Bishop's Stortford Golf Club in Hertfordshire, England.

Augustus finished 118th at nine over and fellow professional Smith 135th at 18-over among the 154-strong field.

England’s Curtis Knipes finished at 12 under to win the 54-hole Clutch Tour Tier 1 event by two shots.
