BHeC takes companies off insurance list

Two companies have been removed from a list of businesses without active health insurance policies after providing proof to the Bermuda Health Council.

While one business, Pinky’s Salon, stated that they should never have been included on the list, the BHeC stood by their decision to identify the business.

A spokeswoman for the salon told The Royal Gazette yesterday that its inclusion on the list was a surprise.

She explained that while the business switched insurance providers last year, staff were never left without insurance, adding that the wellbeing of employees was a top priority.

Responding to the complaint, Ian Cameron of the BHeC said that there had been an issue with the business’s previous insurer.

He said the salon contacted the BHeC yesterday and provided proof that the issue had been resolved, leading to the business being removed from the online list.

“As soon as we receive the information from the insurer, we send a notice out to the employer and they have to send us proof,” he said.

“Then there are follow-up phone calls and letters. We go back to the insurer again just before we go out to the site.

“It’s on the employer to provide proof.”

A second business, Durham Accounting and Management Services, was also removed from the updated list.

However, as of press time last night, six businesses remained.
