Bermuda signs amendment to Bahrain tax agreement
David Burt, the Premier and Minister of Finance, has signed a protocol amending the Double Taxation Agreement between Bermuda and Bahrain.
The protocol was signed on April 17 on the sidelines of the 2026 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Washington.
The Premier signed on behalf of Bermuda, alongside Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy.
The amendment updates the original agreement signed in 2010 under Paula Cox, who was then Bermuda’s Minister of Finance.
Bahrain was the first country with which Bermuda signed a DTA. The agreement represents the longest-standing relationship Bermuda holds with countries from the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The updated protocol aligns with the standards of the Inclusive Framework on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting, incorporating measures to prevent treaty abuse and strengthen dispute resolution mechanisms.
Mr Burt said as more Bermuda businesses look to expand operations in the GCC, Bahrain remains a key gateway.
“This amendment ensures our agreement continues to reflect international standards and supports the growing economic ties between our two jurisdictions,” he said.
