Disgusted by state of the Island
April 18, 2013
Dear Sir,
I would like your opinion on the cleanliness of our Island. Personally, I am disgusted by the state of our streets and sidewalks. Even as part of the youth in Bermuda, I feel ashamed sometimes to call it my home. What impression does it make on us when tourists first come into Hamilton Harbor and the first thing they’ll see is the amount of litter scattered across town? However, it’s not only town though that has problems with trash though, multiple other popular spots in Bermuda such as some of our beaches and parks have the common drink bottle and fast food boxes lying around.
This is not to say that the street cleaners don’t do a good job at what they do, but more to say that the community as a whole has to take action as well to keep our Island beautiful. Whether it be picking up loose pieces of trash off the floor or actually starting at the source and throwing our trash straight away. We don’t want people coming and going saying “Sure it was paradise, but it could have been better” just because of the litter in Bermuda. We need to take pride in our Island, and remember that the dumps are in St George’s and Pembroke, not everywhere.
