Government is doing a good job, so far

October 4, 2013Dear Sir,The new government is doing a good job of trying to get Bermuda back on its feet. The premier and his team inherited an island in deep trouble. A country experiencing five successive years of economic decline, an increase in violent crime, a failing public education system and expensive healthcare, all of which pointed to a Bermuda in serious trouble. Many think that perhaps winning the government would not bode well, as the damage incurred may be so insurmountable, that it can not be reversed. The OBA are going ahead with reforms and changes in legislation, which hopefully will get us back on track.Addressing much need immigration reform will lead to job creators feeling more welcome, and thus staying longer creating more job opportunities for all.Everyone paying the same for government healthcare creates an even playing field where one is no longer treated unfairly. The changes in The Municipalities Act will result in everyone who pays taxes having representation.A fair bidding process for government contracts will ensure that we do not overpay or waste taxpayers monies. An accountable Pubic Education System will help our children get the education they deserve. The new Tourism Authority will take much of the political interference out and replace it with competent individuals, resulting in more visitors. The introduction of parts of Operation Ceasefire have already pointed to a reduction in serious crime. Hopefully our children will no longer commit atrocities, which have long lasting affects on families and the country. Our economy has been shaken to the core with lost confidence, but, there are reasons to believe confidence is coming back. It will take time, perhaps more than what some can wait for, but those that do will be rewarded. To our leaders, keep trying, our children and their children are depending on it!Changer
