Watch: All change at Coldwell Banker
Bermuda Longtail Real Estate agency is winding down its operations after 16 years in business.
Its principal, the award-winning realtor Cecilia “Cesa” Edwards, will take over as agency manager for residential and commercial sales and rentals at Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty.
The chairwoman of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, Real Estate Division and member of the Real Estate Advisory Board, will soon take over the Coldwell Banker role from another well-respected industry leader, Susan Thompson, who retires this year after 30 years with the firm.
A Coldwell Banker statement said Ms Thompson had given “decades of distinguished leadership in Bermuda’s real estate sector”.
It said: “Susan has been a respected and influential figure in Bermuda real estate for nearly three decades.
“Originally from the United States, she brought extensive expertise in marketing, advertising, and sales to Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty when she joined the company in the mid-1990s.
“Over the years, she has helped lead significant growth and modernisation efforts, eventually serving as agency manager overseeing residential and commercial sales and rentals.
“In August 2026, Susan will celebrate an impressive milestone — 30 years with the company — recognising her dedication, leadership, and lasting impact on the business and the Bermuda real estate industry.”
The top realtors talked to The Royal Gazette in a video interview about the difficulties in the island’s rental market and why housing remained a standout issue.
“Affordability and accessibility, I feel are two big challenges,” Ms Edwards said. “Obviously, Bermuda being the 21 square miles that it is [relates to] the lack of [property] inventory.”
She said if there was anything that would keep her up at night, it would be those issues and how they affected Bermudians and all residents.
Ms Thompson said that Bermuda’s real estate crisis is a worldwide phenomenon.
She said: “This is not just Bermuda. Everywhere you go they are having the same problem. I believe that part of it started with the pandemic.
“In the pandemic, none of us knew what it was going to look like. We were just wondering if we were going to survive.
“Little did we think that the market would go crazy during the pandemic and immediately after it.”
She said with people cooped up at home with their significant others, more saw the need to move out on their own.
It was one of the reasons, she said during the interview, that more demand was placed on accommodation.
