A’Jahni Foggo and Mazaii Tucker were among those getting their title bids off to a flying start during an exciting and fun-filled day of motocross racing at Southside Motorsports Park in St David’s on Boxing Day.

The promising riders reigned supreme as they recorded an impressive clean sweep of victories to claim early pole position in their respective divisions in the traditional six-race trophy series held over the festive period.

Foggo demonstrated his potential by winning all three races in the 85cc class to cap a truly memorable outing at the track.

“I felt like I rode great and this is my first time achieving a clean sweep in the 85cc class,” the 11-year-old Francis Patton School student told The Royal Gazette.

“The track was in good condition and it couldn’t get any better.

“First two motos I got holeshot and maintained the lead. The third moto I didn’t get the best start, so I had to work real hard through the pack and the other riders made me work really hard.

“Although I have tough competition, I have high expectations for myself and we all go out there and do the same thing, and that is to win.”

Tucker also capitalised on the favourable track conditions after overcoming some early jitters on the way to winning all three races in the 65cc class.

“I was nervous at the start, but when I got the holeshot my nerves went away,” the ten-year-old Victor Scott School student said. “The track was nice and I was feeling good.

“This is my first time dominating. I am looking forward to a championship this season and can’t wait until the next one (race day).”

Also achieving a clean sweep of victories competing in their respective divisions and getting their campaigns off to solid starts were Lorenzo Burch, Maddox Seymour Durh and Nyla Goodchild.

Burch won all three races competing in the Over 30 class, with Seymour Durh duplicating the phenomenal feat in the Pee Wee class and Goodchild in the 85cc Women’s class.

Others thrusting themselves in the early hunt for overall series honours in their divisions were Kody Paul, Allan DeGraff and Rudell Pitcher.

DeGraff, who celebrated his 29th birthday three days earlier, leads the Expert class after achieving two firsts and a second.

“It was a good race day overall,” he said.

“It was some good, close racing and I am looking forward to New Year’s Day.”

Pitcher leads the Novice class after achieving a pair of firsts and a third and Paul in the 50cc class having produced an identical record on the day.

BMA president Gannon Trott hailed the Boxing Day event as a success.

“All in all it was a success and we had a good turnout in terms of spectators to support our locals,” he said.

“We had no real incidents and there was exciting racing bar-to-bar.”

The series will conclude on New Year’s Day at the East End facility where Trott anticipates another exciting and fun day of racing.

“It’s a two-part series so Boxing Day was part one and part two will be New Year’s Day, and that’s when we will finalise and hand out the trophies,” he added.

“We hope and encourage people to come down again New Year’s Day to support these youngsters and come looking for some exciting bar-to-bar racing because that’s what’s happening.”

All eyes will be on Bermuda’s riders as there are no overseas competitors involved.

“We purposefully chose not to bring in a foreigner this year in order to put all of our emphasis on our locals and let our people see exactly what’s happening down here,” Trott added.

New Year’s Day racing starts at noon.
