Second Government MP the centre of police inquiry

ANOTHER senior Government MP is the subject of a police investigation, the Mid-Ocean News can reveal.

Details of the probe remain sketchy but a source close to the investigation confirmed to this newspaper that a Progressive Labour Party politician was at the centre of inquiries.

The source declined to comment further, refusing to say how long the inquiry has been going on, whether it had been completed, the nature of any alleged wrong-doing or if charges were pending. When asked for details about the case, a police spokesman would only say: "The Bermuda Police Service does not comment on ongoing investigations or identify any individuals who may be involved in those investigations."

Progressive Labour Party spokesman Wentworth Christopher, could not be reached for comment last night, while the Premier's press secretary did not respond to e-mailed questions.

The news follows the resignation this week of Health Minister Nelson Bascome, who said he was stepping down pending the results of an inquiry by police fraud squad officers.

Last July the Mid-Ocean News revealed the Minister, who was a backbencher at the time, was at the centre of a police inquiry.
