Bermuda-based reinsurer Alea Group Holdings was the fourth biggest flotation so far in 2003 for the London Stock Exchange when it listed earlier this month. Alea raised ?165 million from the sale of shares at 250 pence apiece.

Axis Capital launched its initial public offering in July on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The net proceeds of the listing were $316 million.

Endurance Specialty listed on the NYSE in March of this year, raising $221 million.

Montpelier Re had its IPO in October of 2002. Its listing on the NYSE saw it raise net proceeds of $201 million.

Platinum raised $677 million in an initial public share sale in October, 2002.

Aspen Insurance announced this month that it is planning to list on the New York Stock Exchange. Aspen is expected to raise a net $178.5 million from the IPO if a so-called over-allotment option is not exercised,

The companies listed here initially kicked off with the backing of significant capital from the private sector but with growth and the need for greater capital, many listed and now trade on major North American stock exchanges.

However, the latest IPOs ? Alea and now with word that Catlin is planning an IPO next year ? have chosen to launch trading on the London Stock Exchange.
