BIBA postpones conference

A third conference has been hit by Hurricane Fabian - with the Bermuda International Business Association (BIBA) announcing it has postponed its two day event planned for next week.

And the event, which was supposed to feature world-renowned motivational speaker, James Malinchak, may have to be cancelled.

But other events for International Business Week will still go ahead, according to the event organisers, and will take place over the next four weeks.

"We recognise that all of Bermuda is still adjusting to our new post-Fabian circumstances, so, BIBA plans to hold one or two events a week over the next few weeks," said Dueane Dill, chairman of the local awareness committee at BIBA.

"Postponing events allows us to carry out all that we'd organised, and also to continue the momentum into October."

MAR/Hegdge Conference was due to start at the beginning of the week and law firm Sedgwick has also cancelled its one day event.

The BIBA two-day conference was due to take place at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on September 19 and 20.

Mr. Dill added: "Regarding our conference, we didn't feel it was feasible to continue as planned, as the community's minds are elsewhere. We want to hold the conference when it will be useful and informative to everyone."

The first event, the Somerset Cricket Club/ Barbados Select matches will kick off this Saturday as planned and on Thursday evening there will be a Special Edition of Youth Talk on ZBM 9 at 8 p.m. focusing on the difference that International Business makes in Bermuda.

"Many of the events we had planned, for example visiting the island's Primary Schools, would have had to be cancelled if we had continued with IB Week for the time scheduled," added Mr. Dill.

The postponements also apply to the two-day conference that was to be the highlight of the week. Mr. Dill continued.

Local programmes & marketing coordinator, Kristin White said: "At this time, it appears that we may be able to host the conference at a later date."
