Techno expo pulls in the crowds
Bermudians flocked to the Fairmont Hamilton Princess yesterday to see the latest Internet technologies at a special showcase hosted by BTC.
The Island's leading Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and technology firms were on hand to show visitors what is on offer, from a specially set up exhibit hall at the Access Broadband Showcase 2004.
In addition to information from Bermuda-based companies, global firms ? including Advanced Fiber Communications, Alcatel, Mitel, Nortel, and Pario Solutions ? were also present to talk through the latest developments.
BTC marketing manager Dennis Emery said: "Everyone can benefit from this interactive communications forum" which included business applications, home monitoring technology, games, and the latest in instant communication ? video instant messaging.
One business application being shown by Applied Computer Technologies (ACT) and IBM dealer BCS was an innovative product designed to greatly reduce the space a corporation would need to house network servers.
Called the IBM e-server BladeCentre solution, the new product consolidates servers into a centralised chassis.
In effect, 14 servers ? which were said to average the size of a pizza takeaway box ? can fit in a space that normally would have only been able to house seven.
But perhaps the biggest draw at the tech expo ? which drew a steady flow of visitors throughout the afternoon ? were two banks of video games noisily reminding guests that technology is not just for the workplace.
