Businesses sent Govt. survey questionnaire

Bermuda business people are receiving requests for information about their enterprises from Government as the Annual Economic Activity Survey (EAS) gets underway.

The Department of Statistics launched the survey on April 7. It will canvass about 1,500 businesses and organisations, which buy or sell goods and services.

The information collected will help to measure accurately the growth of the economy, and develop a range of statistics used to compare the economic performance of industries.

In a statement yesterday, the Government said reliable and relevant economic data was needed to enhance the quality of decision making, both in the public and private sectors.

Questionnaires were mailed to businesses and organisations across 15 industrial groups, ranging from agriculture to international business, including hotels, construction companies, banks, schools, churches, and retail stores.

A random sample is taken of businesses and organisations with less than seven employees, while businesses and organisations with seven or more employees are selected automatically.

Any orgianisation who has received a survey and who may require assistance in completing the questionnaires can contact the Department of Statistics' technical support officers at 294-9051 or 294-9085.
