Buskers take Front Street stage
performers for the second year in a row, the Bank of Bermuda announced yesterday.
The news came on the eve of the 1999 Harbour Nights season which begins this evening on Front Street and is sponsored by the bank which will present the Bank of Bermuda Buskers again.
Also featured on opening night will be other bank-sponsored events including a performance by United Dance Productions and a sneak preview of the Up With People Mother's Day show.
Bank of Bermuda senior vice president of corporate administration, Barry Shailer, said: "We are delighted to be continuing our Busker nights for a second season and initiating an opportunity for the community to showcase their diverse talents.
"We have many special acts planned over the course of the Harbour Nights season such as musicians, jugglers and magicians.
"We are looking forward to opening night which will include the first Busker night of the year, as well as United Dance Productions dancers and the energetic Up With People group.'' Five Bank of Bermuda Buskers are lined up for tonight and there will be similar nights once a month until October.
Bank of Bermuda volunteers will hand out ballots to spectators when the Buskers perform so they can vote for their favourite Busker of the Night.
The winner will be announced at the end of each evening and all the winners will compete for the grand title at the end of the Harbour Night season.
Car and bike owners are requested to move their parked vehicles off Front Street and out of Number Five Car Park by 6 p.m. today or they will get a $50 parking ticket.
The warning came yesterday from Corporation of Hamilton secretary Roger Sherratt.
For tonight's Harbour Nights, Front Street parking is prohibited between Parliament Street and Bermudiana Road and in the car park across from Flanagan's Restaurant after 6 p.m.
All vehicles except taxis and horse and buggies are prohibited from driving along this stretch of Front Street after 6 p.m. also, added Mr. Sherratt.
This ban will remain in place until the last Harbour Nights in October.
