Delta extends ticket deadline
worldwide winter sales rate has been extended to the end of this week.
Delta Air Lines general manager Jackie Zuill made the announcement yesterday.
The original deadline for ticket purchases at sale prices was yesterday but it has now been extended to January 17 -- this Friday.
Reduced fares are available to destinations throughout the US -- including Alaska and Hawaii -- and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, Russia, and Asia.
The fares include round-trip travel to Atlanta or Boston for less than $300 and to Florida for no more than $400.
The above prices do not include taxes and vary depending upon whether travel takes place on weekdays or weekends.
VESSEL RUNS AGROUND RES Vessel runs aground Two pleasure boats came to the rescue of a mariner over the weekend when a craft ran aground.
At about 5 p.m. on Sunday the 28-foot Wind Song ran aground by Agar's Island, near Point Shares, and called Harbour Radio asking for help.
Several boats went to the rescue and by 5.30 p.m. the Wind Song was towed off.
BREAK-INS REPORTED CRM Break-ins reported Police are investigating a burgalry at the second floor offices of the Demco Florist Building on King Street.
The owner of the Rabbit Hutch said she returned to her office at 4 p.m. on Saturday after leaving it at 8.30 a.m. on Friday, said Police spokeswoman Evelyn James Barnett.
She found someone had gained entry to it and had stolen her portable Sony stereo worth about $400 and some cash.
It is believed that the same culprit or culprits then broke into the Lister Insurance Agency across the hall and stole some cash and two cheques worth "a sizable amount of money''.
Nothing further was stolen although the premises were ransacked, said Mrs.
James Barnett, who added that the stolen cheques were recovered.
Other break-ins reported this weekend happened at two stores on Court Street.
Two pairs of shoes and three pairs of boots were taken from the Shoe Centre while nothing was taken from Mel's Hair and Wig Centre.
And there were three burglaries involving sums of cash at homes on Lightbourne Lane in Smith's and at Wellington Back Road and Wellington Slip Road in St.
George's.
FIREFIGHTERS KEPT BUSY FIR Firefighters kept busy Firefighters were kept busy over the weekend with helping a man get back into his house after locking himself out, five false alarms and three floodings.
A Bermuda Fire Services spokesman said firefighters were called out at 1.51 a.m. on Saturday to help a Roxdene Apartments resident get into his home.
At 10.21 a.m. they responded to a report of a structural fire at Whitney Institute but it was found to be a false alarm.
Other firefighters rushed to the Modern Mart in Paget at 10.38 a.m. on Saturday where and pumped out a flooded basement.
The rain also caused flooding in Dockyard and firefighters arrived at 11.01 a.m. to find a garage full of painting and bodywork equipment threatened by rising water levels. Once again the water was pumped away.
On Sunday at 1.04 a.m., firefighters vacuumed a flood at a home in Southampton where the hose at the back of a washing machine had come unattached.
POLICE CAR DAMAGED POL Police car damaged Police officers are looking for the person or people who dented the back door of one of their squad cars on Friday night.
Police spokeswoman Evelyn James Barnett said two Police officers went to a Greenwich Lane, Devonshire house where they parked their squad car by the roadside.
They locked the car and left it for about five minutes. Upon returning, they discovered the bottom of the offside rear passenger door had apparently been kicked.
