Direct flight from Europe proposed
continental Europe.
Tourism officials are examining a proposal for scheduled charter flights from Frankfurt, Germany.
They would be operated by Imperial, a new charter airline registered in the Island.
The news was announced to MPs by Tourism Minister the Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge yesterday.
The flight, which could make six or seven weekly trips, would be the first regular charter from the Continent.
The Ministry is not revealing details of the proposals. But it is believed Imperial is a newly-formed British company, with plans to offer flights this summer or next on a test basis.
Presenting his Ministry's annual budget, Mr. Woolridge also announced: First time visitors seem unsatisfied with accommodation; The proposed Ritz-Carlton hotel is "still in the pipeline''; and The local industry is forecast to grow at least ten percent this year.
But Shadow Tourism Minister Mr. David Allen blasted Mr. Woolridge for not investing enough in building European business.
