Data General made the announcement at yesterday's Computer Society of Bermuda BITS '94 Exposition.

Hamilton-based systems integrator Gateway Systems will sell and support the full range of Data General products, including the company's AViiON server and CLARiiON open storage systems product lines.

AViiON is an applications server running the UNIX operating system, and CLARiiON provides high availability disk storage (RAID).

Data General's customers include financial reinsurer Centre Re for insurance applications, and Telco for the deployment of its Bertel Electronic Mail backbone system.

Telco and Soft-Switch, a partner of Data General, have joined forces to deliver a multi-protocol E-Mail backbone in Bermuda.

The E-Mail facility supports attachments, such as word processing documents, spreadsheets and data base files, and programmes.

Mr. Ian Cummings, director of operations at Gateway Systems, said: "We feel Data General's products and Gateway Systems' recognised systems integration expertise will combine to provide Bermuda's businesses with a formidable team''.

Mr. David Brown, senior vice president at Centre Re said: "Changes occurring in Bermuda business today demand an open communications approach and products that ensure the integrity of our information systems.

"Data General has demonstrated an ability to understand our business, and meet our systems needs.'' Mr. John Dill, senior manager at Telco, said: "As a customer of both Gateway Systems and Data General, we are pleased that these two companies are combining their strengths to deliver open technology and services''.

Gateway Systems and Data General are hosting several short presentations and demonstrations for show attendees today at the BITS exposition.
