Kiwi won't be here this winter

after the summer season.

Kiwi International Airlines was hoping to carry on flying to the Island in some capacity after September 30, when daily flights are scheduled to stop.

Yesterday the company said passengers numbers could not justify the flights, but it stressed it was committed to daily flights next year.

The airline started operating 150-seat Boeing 727s to Bermuda on May 25 and for the first few weeks was running at about half capacity, although passenger numbers were picking up.

Mr. Jack Tucker, a spokesman for the company, said: "We intend to discontinue the 1995 service at the end of the season as originally planned.

"It's not viable to carry on although we still believe Bermuda is an exciting destination and one that is right for us and one that can be viable.'' He said Kiwi was planning to re-enter the market next year and would carry out extensive advertising and marketing to promote the route.

One reason for poor passenger numbers so far this year was the company's late entry into the market and lack of pre-advertising, said Mr. Tucker.

"We seriously thought about continuing beyond the season, but we decided it would not work,'' added Mr. Tucker. "We believe next season will work very well, however.''
