Magazine votes Majesty's voyage to Bermuda `cruise of the month'
A top American travel magazine has voted Majesty Cruise Line's Boston to Bermuda voyage aboard the Royal Majesty its "cruise of the month''.
The article in the August issue of Cruise Travel features Bermuda as "one of the world's most upscale island destinations''.
It points out Bermuda is popular with New Englanders and describes the Island as being "steeped in tradition, flawlessly polite and congenial''. It says Bermuda's old world English charm is unmatched by any island destination in the Atlantic or Caribbean.
The magazine showers more free publicity on Bermuda with a separate article featuring "one of the world's finest linear parks'' -- the 17-mile Bermuda Railway Trail.
The article, describes Royal Majesty as "a luxury resort without lavish excesses'' and says the ship cost $220 million to build and aims to please every one of her passengers who are described as "generally over 35, educated, affluent, married professionals''.
A cruise highlight, writer Jim Kerr says, "Is being ondeck as the ship negotiates the very narrow entrance to St. George's Harbour. Land-based observers watching the ship come in are within easy hailing distance.'' He also praises St. George's as a port of call, saying its buildings are excellent examples of early island architecture and the narrow lanes and walled alleys that wind through the town make for great sightseeing. St.
George's is "much more relaxed and casual than in Hamilotn'', he says.
The menu for the 630-seat, non-smoking, Epicurean Dining Room, catering to gourmets, vegetarians and dieters alike with items such as "filet mignon Henry IV'' and "eggplant rollatini'', also got rave reviews.
And thanks to Majesty's affiliation with Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, children can pose with `Scoobi-Doo'' and "Fred Flinstone''.
Cruise ship directors offer 10 different island tours, golf arrangements at six of the island's courses and eight different water-orientated tours, it is noted. And operating out of Boston fits into the cruise line's marketing plan as it means they can tap into a major metropolitan area without having the dockside congestion associated with New York.
The Royal Majesty is the only ship that berths in St. George's for her entire stay as other ships spend days in Hamilton. Majesty Cruise Line's Marketing vice president Mr. Mike Smith is quoted as saying Majesty is now targeting incentive voyagers, meeting voyagers, golfers, families with children, honeymooners, first timers, and "professionals looking for a brief but luxurious holiday''.
