Sporting advice
mutual benefit.
Companies will get tips on how to get publicity by sponsoring sports events, and clubs will learn how to boost their funds with such partnerships.
The advice will come from international speaker Mr. David Wilkinson, from Ontario, who will be the star name at a conference in the new year.
The conference, on January 28 and 29 at Bermuda College, was announced yesterday by Sport and Recreation Minister the Hon. Pamela Gordon.
"Participants will get a chance to hear how the Bermuda Equestrian Federation applied Mr. Wilkinson's methods in their two very successful fund-raising schemes,'' she said.
"They will also hear a presentation by Bermuda's foremost fund-raiser, Mr.
Richard Gorham.
"The conference should have a special appeal to the business community as much of its focus will be on Mr. Wilkinson's sponsorship marketing manual, including the state and evolution of sponsorship marketing, sponsorship categories, event marketing, event selection, negotiating sponsorships, sponsorship contracts, measurement and evaluation, and case studies of sponsorship and event marketing, among other topics.'' Mr. Wilkinson presented conferences on the Island in 1989 and 1990. Youth and Sports director Mr. Anthony Roberts added: "We've invited him back to Bermuda based on the fact that the sporting bodies, to whom we sent a questionnaire two or three months ago, indicated that fund-raising is the most important aspect of their concern, as we develop sport in our Island.'' The conference price is $50, and space is limited to 100 people. The Minister will be speaking as will the former president of the Equestrian Federation.
MORE SPACE FOR STAFF PLN The Development Applications Board has approved plans to create more space for staff at the Reefs Beach Club, in Southampton.
The plans were to convert existing buildings to create nine staff dormitories and a workshop.
At its latest meeting, on Wednesday, the Board also approved an application, in principle, for seven new dwelling units on Southampton Road, Southampton.
Conditions placed on the applicant, Mr. Vincent Richardson, included that all utility services, including television relay cables, should be placed underground before building begins.
Work looks set to begin on the Watlington Waterworks reverse osmosis plant which will be a major boost to water supplies on the Island.
The Board approved an application by Watlington and the Bermuda Electric Light Company for initial trenching work to begin on the site on Parson's Road, Devonshire.
