Tyco to cut 4,000 more jobs

additional jobs at its newly-acquired AMP Inc. subsidiary, and said the count could increase.

"We've identified about 4,000 additional jobs as part of our efforts to bring AMP back to its leadership in this market,'' Tyco Senior Vice President Brad McGee said, adding the number of jobs to be eliminated could increase before the company finalises its plans in mid-June.

AMP, an electronic device maker that Tyco acquired in a $11.3 billion purchase that closed last week, had already identified 4,200 jobs it planned to eliminate. Most of those employees have already been let go, McGee added.

AMP employed 46,500 people last July when it announced the first round of cuts. Tyco, which makes a variety of products from fire alarm systems to medical devices, will take a pre-tax charge of $500 million to $600 million during the third quarter to pay for the layoffs, McGee said.
