TechAwards 2010 winners are named

The winners of the 2010 Technology Innovation Awards or "TechAwards" - part of Techweek10 - were announced yesterday.

Nominations increased from 64 in 2009 to a total of 153 entries for 2010.

The Best Interactive Experience was Wise Body Wellness. The nominator said: "Wise Body Wellness is a health and wellness treatment centre that allows you to book and change your appointments online and then confirm them in your outlook calendar."

The Best Business Solution was won by TCD, specifically the E-TCD Online Registration. The nominator said: "E-TCD should be recognised because they made the process for setting online appointments and the annual automobile registration process much simpler and easier."

The Best Customer Service was won by BermudaTix. The nominator said: "BermudaTix has gone from a start-up just two years ago to one of the leading ticket providers in Bermuda."

The Best Use of Green Tech was won by Etank. The nominator said: "The system allows water suppliers as well as tank owners to view and monitor their water levels and usage online."

The Best Local Website was won by Bernews and second winner Bermuda's Brazilian Football School (BBFS). For Bernews, the nominator said: "An amazing find, so refreshing. Local news content updated throughout the day with great use of Facebook and Twitter." For BBFS, the nominator said "The site acts as a great tool between older positive men in the community and younger boys in the community looking or role models."

The Best E-Commerce Website was won by RacedayWorld.com. The nominator said: "RaceDayWorld.com allows race organisers to post events and provides a central area for athletes to register for these events."

The Best Mobile Application was won by Electronic Communications Ltd. (ECL). The nominator said: "This developing company provides a next generation radio solution, best suited to meet today's and tomorrow's business needs."

The Best Use of Social Networking was won by the Bermuda Police Service. The nominator in this category said: "The most effective use of Facebook that I have seen from any organisation. The Somerset Bridge accident closure was an excellent use of social networking as they got the word out before the news did."

The Most Inspiring Teacher was Teresa Harper, of CedarBridge Academy. A student who nominated her wrote: "Ms Harper is an inspiration. She helped me all through high-school both personally and as a FIRST Robotics mentor."

The Most Inspiring Tech Mentor was Dion Tucker, of RenaissanceRe. The nominator said: "Dion has always shown great enthusiasm for helping young IT professionals to advance in their career."

The Technology Training Advocate was won by TLF. The nominator said: "Those responsible for this organisation should be recognized for their continuous support and effort to promote and encourage youth technology growth."

The most Innovative Youth Project was Axiomgaming.net. The nominator said: "Emmanuel Smith-Joynes and Alexander Thompson felt that gamers in Bermuda were isolated and there was a missing social sprit as can be found in other parts of the world."

The Local Innovation of the Year was EasyPark. The nominator said: "It has made parking in Hamilton so much easier, eliminating the need to search for change or voucher books, while providing a positive contribution to the environment."

The International Innovation of the Year was Nova Ltd. The nominator said: "Nova is a Bermuda-based software development company that provides integrated services to help companies assess, identify, develop and deploy IT solutions to support better decision making at all levels. Quantum is just such a solution. Quantum automates the processes publicly traded companies undergo to keep shareholder records compliant with the BSX."
