Schrum to speak at STEP Caribbean conference

Appleby Bermuda partner Vanessa Schrum will be speaking next week at a prominent Caribbean conference for specialists in family inheritance and succession planning.

Ms Shrum will be at the 20th Anniversary STEP Caribbean Conference in Nassau, Bahamas next week.

This year’s conference, ‘Mind the Gap: Future-Proofing IFCs’ will be attended by global professionals, will feature sessions on the latest industry trends in family inheritance and succession planning as well as networking opportunities with sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and fellow delegates.

STEP works to improve public understanding of the issues families face in this area and promote education and high professional standards among members. Members of the STEP organisation are from a range of professions, including lawyers, accountants and other specialists.

Ms Schrum’s session entitled ‘Where there’s a will there’s a right way’ will deliver information on current trends in estate planning and several traps to be aware of when preparing a will.

She is a partner and group head of the private client and trusts department in Bermuda. She first qualified as a solicitor in the United Kingdom and was admitted to the bars of Bermuda and the British Virgin Island.

Ms Schrum has extensive experience on a wide range of trust and estate planning matters including the use of Bermuda private and commercial trust structures, private trust companies, applications for probate and the administration of complex and large estates. She drafts and reviews all forms of trusts and ancillary documentation, wills, enduring powers of attorney and other estate planning documents.
