Bermuda’s first Integrated Resource Plan received accolades at the 11th Annual Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum.

CREF, held in Miami, Florida, brought stakeholders from across the Caribbean region to discuss new initiatives and address common energy challenges.

Monique Lister, the director of legal services at the Regulatory Authority of Bermuda was a panellist at the ‘Bermuda: From Ambitious IRP to 85 per cent Renewables’ panel discussion at CREF.

“Initially several energy stakeholders saw Bermuda’s IRP as aggressive or too ambitious,” Ms Lister said. “After outlining the IRP process; citing extensive analysis, gaining input from alternate proposals, and most importantly feedback from the public before reaching a final decision, they can now see a clear road map in the development of their own IRP’s and learn from us. Based on the comments received, I’m happy to note that their concerns have been addressed. Bermuda is now seen as a leading country in the Caribbean region for the development of a comprehensive IRP that sets the road map for significantly increased renewable energy.“
