Sign posts and Police officers will present to direct motorists.

Police officers in the Hamilton Birdcage may be capturing visitors' attention, but they are not catching the eye of local motorists.

An increasing number of motorists are failing to heed the signals given by Police at the Front Street location.

Police spokesman Sgt. Chris Wilcox said several local motorists when stopped for disobeying the officer's traffic signals have stated that they did not see the officer.

He noted that the Birdcage was manned by an officer from 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"Though the officer may be a popular photographic subject for tourists, his or her main function is to direct traffic during the busy lunch period,'' Sgt.

Wilcox added.

"Motorists are reminded that they must obey all signals given by the officer in the Birdcage.''
