Currently, there is a waiting list of 80 little brothers and sisters between the ages of six and fourteen. The charity seeks matches with adults who are willing to spend three hours per week with a child.
Pearline Trott, vice president of Big Brothers and Sisters of Bermuda, said that the charity is in the midst of trying to attract more big brothers and big sisters.
"We have only had one match for the entire month of November,'' she said.
"There are 80 kids who are waiting, but of that number 67 are boys.'' Consequently, the recruitment committee has used public service announcements, presentations at schools, churches and local businesses to attract prospective matches.
BUILDING NOT DERELICT GVT Building not derelict The owners of a 19th century Flatts building are in the midst of discussions over the future of the property.
Government officials already said that they will not tamper with the building which caused concern to motorists when it was discovered that its roof -- near the Flatts Village marina -- threatened to collapse under heavy rain a few weeks ago.
Police at that time closed the road off and diverted traffic to Middle Road.
Works and Engineering employees removed the roof after there was concern that slates would fall into the road as traffic went by.
After a thorough examination, Works and Engineering Minister Leonard Gibbons said that the historic building was not derelict and therefore the Ministry will not interfere any further.
Building owner Cromwell Manders said that as far as he knew there was no more damage.
