Cup Match is not just about cricket -- it's also about food!

If it's not the cricket your going to Cup Match for it should be the variety of dishes you can get -- from conch stew and fish chowder to mussel pies, orders of fish and crab cakes.

Spread all over the outskirts of the cricket field are several food stalls -- and let's not forget the Crown and Anchor tables -- where people wandering around looking for something to eat, can stop and enjoy a good `greeze' and a good conversation from people like Dolly Pitcher at her Texas Country Road stall.

If there is one person people look for at Cup Match in St. George's this year, it's Dolly Pitcher as she is well known for her conch stew, mussel pies and fried fish.

"I've been in business for a long time. My father started it when I was about 15 and I later took over with other family,'' Ms Pitcher said.

She added: "We serve conch stew, fish and chips, chicken and chips, mussel, chicken and beef pies, hamburgers, chicken burgers, scallops, shrimps and a seafood platter.

"We also have fish cakes and fish sandwiches that's a big seller because of the size of the sandwich, and the conch stew is also one of our big seller along with hash shark.

"People love good seafood, and a lot of people from the US love my food.'' Ms Pitcher said people enjoy her food because "they don't get mussel pies and conch stew all year around at most places.'' On what made her famous Ms Pitcher said: "What made me famous is when I worked at Elbow for a few hours when they had St. David's night. I would make a few dishes and the tourists loved them, then they would come to Cup Match and look for me.

"My mother and father were very famous cooks working for all sorts of people.

"My dad started the food stall and I would help him along with my mother -- it was a family thing.'' Her first cousin Leslie Pitcher also knows what it's like to run a food stall since, after helping Dolly, he decided to own one of his own.

"I have had a stall at Cup Match and county games for over 30 years. It was something I knew I wanted to take up after working with my cousin Dolly,'' Mr.

Pitcher said.

"I like the atmosphere and I like cooking,'' he added. He also said: "In my stall you can find the usual fish, fries, chicken and fish nuggets, BBQ hot wings, conch stew and crab cakes. My daughter Rebecca just started making crab cakes so we'll see how they do.'' He added: "This whole thing started as a Pitcher family business. My other daughter has a novelty stall.'' This year Mr. Pitcher will not have a stall at Cup Match because the rest of his family wants to go on a picnic so he's going to cook for Dolly again.

"Maybe I'll be back at Cup Match next year,'' he added.

"I'll keep having a stall until I retire or I may have to give it up if these prices keep going up. Renting a space for a stall used to be $600 for the two days but now it's $1,000,'' Mr. Pitcher said.

Sheila Reid and her family are also quite well known when it comes to Cup Match cuisine but they no longer have a stall at the game.

However, since the game is being played in St. George's, Reid's will be offering all the popular dishes right from the restaurant on Mullet Bay road just across from St. George's Cricket Club.

"We stopped having the stall because all my children are finished school. We were keeping it going to help pay for their tuition but we're all finish now.

I had a stall for 20 years,'' Mrs. Reid said.

She added: "It was always popular at Cup Match because of our homemade mussel pies and our friendliness. We always had plenty of staff.

"If my children want to take it up then that's fine and it my kids decide they want to go back to school then they can start it up also.'' Mrs. Reid also said: "People going to Cup Match can just come and visit me across the street -- we'll have everything, all the favourites including our pies. I'm hooking them up this year, whatever they're selling over there will be over here.''
