There are so many deserving charities in Bermuda, sometimes it is difficult to choose one to help.So Angela Roberts, member of the Kardias Club, simply ran her finger randomly down a list of charities and picked one.“My finger stopped on autism,” she said, “so that is where we decided to help. In the past, we have helped the Bermuda Autism Support and Education (BASE) group. This year, for the first time, we are helping Tomorrow’s Voices.”Tomorrow’s Voices is a charity that provides therapy and education to children with autism. To help them, the Kardias Club has arranged a wine and cheese night on Valentine’s Day.“We went out to the school and visited with Tomorrow’s Voices executive director Dr Kimberley Mills and found that the charity really needs a lot of help,” said Mrs Roberts. “The services being offered at Tomorrow’s Voices are cutting edge, research based and the very best in treatment for youth with autism and other developmental disabilities.“Ongoing financial support is gravely needed because these services can be costly and as a charity Tomorrow’s Voices subsidises 75 percent of the costs associated with this treatment. This is so parents from all economic backgrounds can access these top notch services that previously were only reserved for the wealthy.”Mrs Roberts has been with the Kardias Club for 35 years and is on the fundraising committee. The Kardias Club is a local charity that was formed more than 50 years ago by a group of women committed to working together to raise funds to serve the community of Bermuda. Over the years the club has raised money for the Bermuda Sloop Foundation, Child’s Wish, the Packwood Home, Age Concern, Prison Fellowship and many others.“Our motto is a ‘heart to glow for other’s good’,” said Mrs Roberts. “That’s perfect for Valentine’s Day.”The wine and cheese night will be held in Goslings Wine Cellar on Dundonald Street in Hamilton tomorrow from 6pm to 9pm. There will be door prizes and plenty to drink and eat. Tickets are $65, available by calling 293-3113.
