This newspaper is the most trusted source of news on Bermuda, according to a recent survey.

The Impact Media Research Study revealed The Royal Gazette to be residents’ first choice in keeping up with the news and current affairs.

Asked by Research.bm to name their one most trusted media source, 33 percent of respondents cited a newspaper, 21 percent a TV station, 19 percent a radio station, six percent a website, and two percent a magazine.

Of these, The Royal Gazette>had the highest individual citations, at 31 percent. It was followed by ZBM TV, at 14 percent.

Those citing The Royal Gazettesaid this was because: “it is more accurate”; “it is they only newspaper they read”; and “newspapers always print corrections”.

Editor of The Royal Gazette, William J. Zuill, said: “We are very gratified that another independent poll has identified The Royal Gazette as the most trusted name in local news.

“This supports our own research which found that The Royal Gazettedoes the best job in providing all types of news about the community, and an overwhelming 80 percent said we did the best job of all newspapers in providing local news.

“The same study, conducted in 2003, found that we had the fairest and most objective news coverage of all newspapers. The Research.bm study shows that we continue to be the market leader, and for that we are grateful to our readers for their continued support.

“We take enormous care to make sure that we get the news right, but there are occasions when we make mistakes. For that reason, it was interesting to note that one of the reasons the poll’s respondents have confidence in The Royal Gazette is our policy of correcting our errors when they occur. This is standard practice for us, and this study demonstrates that it is the right one.

“Finally, I would note that this rating is only possible because of the dedicated work of the entire staff of The Royal Gazette, who put in long hours to ensure that the people of Bermuda have a first class daily newspaper. We also know that we cannot rest on our laurels and this will only give us added incentive to continue to be the market leader for Bermuda news.”

The Impact Media Research Survey is a bi-annual poll of 400 men and women on their choice of media, such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and Internet.

The polled sample is reflective of the population breakdown, as defined by the Department of Statistics, and the results analysed by age, gender, race and socio-economic information.
