'Whining and ungrateful'

May 5, 2007</*R>WE all know who Michael Douglas is. He is a two-time Oscar winner, an actor and producer and his films have grossed millions and millions of dollars around the world. He is also part of one of Bermuda's oldest and most distinguished families. But who exactly is your correspondent “Stranger In A Strange Island” (Mid-Ocean News<$>, May 4)? From his letter he sounds like just another one of those whining, ungrateful Bermudians who can't wrap his head around the fact the days of “horse-and-carriage” Bermuda are long gone. Hey, like the song says, the times they are a-changing! People like you, “Stranger”, should get out of the way if you can't lend a hand to farsighted and creative people like Michael Douglas who are making sure the times are changing for the better! “Stranger” should be thanking Michael Douglas for making his home here and bringing with him a vision and business acumen Bermuda is lucky to have!I mean, let's get down to brass tacks, shall we? Who really cares about your problems with a greenhouse when Michael Douglas and his partners created hundreds of jobs and pumped millions of dollars into the Bermudian economy with the graceful (certainly not “UGLY”) villas at Ariel Sands!

From his letter he sounds like just another one of those whining, ungrateful Bermudians who can’t wrap his head around the fact the days of “horse-and-carriage” Bermuda are long gone. Hey, like the song says, the times they are a-changing! People like you, “Stranger”, should get out of the way if you can’t lend a hand to farsighted and creative people like Michael Douglas who are making sure the times are changing for the better! “Stranger” should be thanking Michael Douglas for making his home here and bringing with him a vision and business acumen Bermuda is lucky to have!

I mean, let’s get down to brass tacks, shall we? Who really cares about your problems with a greenhouse when Michael Douglas and his partners created hundreds of jobs and pumped millions of dollars into the Bermudian economy with the graceful (certainly not “UGLY”) villas at Ariel Sands!

Sorry, I don’t mean to sound harsh but Michael Douglas’ ongoing work renovating and resuscitating Ariel Sands is far more important to Bermuda’s long-term well-being than “Stranger In A Strange Island’s” potting shed! Get real!
