Stealing sirloin steaks, rockfish earns one year sentence
A man was jailed yesterday for stealing four sirloin steaks from a supermarket.
Che Pennyman, 36, pleaded guilty at Magistrates' Court to stealing the steaks and a quantity of rockfish from Arnold's supermarket in Sandys on May 8.
He also pleaded guilty to destroying a $60 light fixture at Somerset Police station on May 9.
The court heard Pennyman, of no fixed abode, was seen acting suspiciously in the supermarket and was chased and apprehended by an employee. Following his arrest, he pulled a fluorescent light fixture off the wall at Somerset Police station.
Pennyman admitted stealing the items in a Police interview on Friday. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo jailed him for one year.
Pennyman will also face trial on July 12 for three counts of burglary and a charge of trespass with intent to steal.
He pleaded not guilty to stealing a 42-inch Samsung television worth $2,800 from a cottage at Elbow Beach Hotel on April 26. He denied a charge of trespass with intent to steal on the same date.

Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney told Magistrates' Court that Fleming was spotted by the Police near the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences at Ferry Reach.
He performed a U-turn in front of the path of a slow moving boat and then sped under a swing bridge in excess of 30 knots, the court heard.
Mr. Mahoney said: "He then did another high-speed U-turn and was seen rapidly accelerating away from the Police boat.
"He approached the swing bridge with a total disregard for boats in the area."
The court heard Fleming was seen reaching speeds of up to 45 knots.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo told him: "They got you as a daredevil on the water and on the land. You've just pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and now you're going under bridges with a jet ski causing people to dunk."
Fleming was fined a further $420.
