BTA fits first GPS system

BTA (Dispatching) Ltd. fitted its first GPS system on one of its cabs yesterday.The controversial cab tracking devices must be on every cab by February 6.BTA president Michael Ray said about 280 cabs had signed up with his firm so far while Radio Cabs, which had previously dominated the market, said they had gathered about 200 of the island's 600 cabs.

The controversial cab tracking devices must be on every cab by February 6.

BTA president Michael Ray said about 280 cabs had signed up with his firm so far while Radio Cabs, which had previously dominated the market, said they had gathered about 200 of the island's 600 cabs.

A third firm, which is an amalgamation of Bermuda Central Dispatching and Coop Taxis, is also bidding for GPS business.

Mr. Ray said the BTA dispatching centre, above the Tavern By the Sea in St. George's would be fully operational by the end of the month.

Meanwhile Radio Cabs are moving from Warwick to an undisclosed location in Hamilton.
