Teen speeder crashes into wall

A Sandys teen crashed his cycle into a wall on Wednesday just 15 minutes after Police had stopped him for speeding at 70 kph.

Police said that at roughly 3.15 a.m. on Wednesday, officers conducting laser speed checks at Woody?s Restaurant on Malabar Road clocked the 17-year-old travelling west on an orange Yamaha V50 at twice the legal speed limit.

A motorcycle officer pursued the teen, stopping the cycle and issuing a ticket.

But 15 minutes later, Police were called to attend what appeared to be a serious single vehicle collision resulting in injury at the junction of Overplus Lane and Middle Road, Sandys.

On arrival officers noticed it was the same orange Yamaha V50 whose rider was just ticketed.

The rider sustained facial injuries as a result of his helmet coming off in the collision and also fractured his left leg.

The auxiliary cycle was extensively damaged.

Police again urge the public to slow down

The Police are urging the public to slow down on the Island?s roads and are continuing to crackdown on speeding and other traffic offences.

Police reminded the public to take heed of the speed limit, road conditions and other motorists when driving.

To help make roads safer, Police suggest using care, caution and courtesy at all times.

Interruption expected in cell service

CellularOne will be performing upgrades to their high speed data network this weekend which may cause a temporary interruption in service on Sunday between midnight and 5 a.m.

Man fined for accident which led to death of his dog

A St. George?s man was fined $250 in Magistrates? Court yesterday after pleading guilty to driving without reasonable consideration after his dog, which was travelling in the back of his car, fell out of the car and struck another car.

Magistrates? Court heard that on May 22, Carlos Richardson, 42, of Wellington Back Road, was driving his car on Kindley Field Road, with his dog in the rear of the car.

The dog fell out and into the path of a another car.

The driver of that car had insufficient time to take evasive action and collided with the dog, killing the animal and causing damage to the car.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Richardson $250 and he has until August 5 to pay the fine or spend 25 days in prison.

Break-ins reported

Police attended a reported breaking and entering at an Agar?s Hill, Pembroke residence around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Officers spoke with the complainant who stated that sometime between 1 and 2 p.m. on Monday, an unknown suspect gained entry to her home and stole $200 in cash.

In another incident, a number of items were stolen from a Wreck Road, Sandys home on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim told Police that an unknown culprit broke into his home sometime between 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. and stole an unknown amount of cash, several items of jewellery and a Sony digital camera.

Last Sunday another Sandys home was hit. Police said two digital cameras, several items of jewellery, $20 worth of coins and a Samsung cellular phone charger with a spare battery were stolen by an unknown culprit sometime between 2.30 and 3.30 p.m.

In another incident, a computer was stolen from Prospect Primary School last weekend.

Police said the breaking and entering occurred at the school on Old Military Road, Devonshire, sometime between 3.30 p.m. on Friday and 7.45 a.m. on Monday.

?The culprit stole a black Dell computer tower,? Police said.

Inquiries into these incidents are underway.

Teen robbed of silver chain

Five young men on Yamaha V50s robbed a teenager of his silver chain when they forced him to the side of the road in Paget on Wednesday.

Police said at 10.15 p.m., the 16-year-old victim from Warwick was riding his auxiliary cycle near the junction of Dudley Hill and Middle Road when three other bikes drove alongside and stole the chain.

The 16-year-old was not injured and was able to give a good description of the robbers, Police said.

DAB approves demolishing of guest house

The Development Applications Board (DAB) has granted permission for a Hamilton Parish guest house to demolish existing tourist accommodations to make way for 14 new tourist units.

Ruth Paynter of Clear View Suites and Villas at No. 10, Sandy Lane, was also granted permission by the DAB to demolish an existing swimming pool.

Two men fined for drug possession

Two men were fined in Magistrates? court on Wednesday after admitting to drug possession.

Everest John Trott, 27, of Redcoat Lane, St. George?s was charged with possession of cannabis on November 6, 2004.

Trott, who is currently in Police custody on another matter, pleaded guilty and the court heard that Police approached him for an unrelated matter and decided to search him after he appeared to be nervous. He was found to have 2.73 grams of cannabis in his pocket. As this was Trott?s first drug conviction, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave him to a $600 fine.

Miami Beach, Florida resident Scott William Shane was also given a fine after admitting to being in possession of cannabis on July 1. Shane, 39, came in to the Island on a commercial flight that day and was searched by Customs after a drug detection dog alerted officers.

Officers inspected Shane and found two plastic bags, one contained dried mushrooms and the other 6.38 grams of cannabis.

Mr. Warner fined Shane $1,000 for the offence.
