'Stone cold killer' held in custody

A man claiming to be a stone cold killer appeared in Magistrates' Court on various charges of using threatening words, having an offensive weapon and breaking and entering into several homes.

Kawesi Simba Wilson, 29, of no fixed abode, did not have to enter a plea since the charges are indictable and will be heard in Supreme Court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo was told that on July 5, Wilson broke into a Sandys residence and stole $7,400.

On July 12 Wilson was in possession of a short axe and used threatening words when he told a man: "I am a stone cold killer, I will come back and kill your whole family."

On June 27 he broke into a Smith's residence and stole a Sony video camera worth $1,800. On the same day he attempted to break into a Sandys residence.

On July 12 he was found to be in possession of a short axe and a pair of black gloves with the intention to commit an offence.

The defendant was remanded into custody until August 3 when he will appear in court for mention.

Impaired driver fined, banned from driving

A Warwick man was fined $1,000 and disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months after pleading guilty to driving while impaired. Cavun Joell, 27, of Rocklands Estate Road, was arrested on July 25 in Paget on suspicion of driving while impaired.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo heard that Police attended a reported disturbance at Lovers Lane and found the car Joell was driving in.

The defendant had difficulty getting out of the car and told Police he had been attacked by unknown individuals.

After a breathalyser test, Joell was found to have 189 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Mr. Tokunbo ordered Joell to pay the fine by August 19 or spend 100 days in prison.

Man caught urinating in parking lot

A Hamilton Parish man received an absolute discharge for committing an act of indecency.

Eric Trott, 42, of Crawl Point, was arrested after he committed an act of offensive behaviour after a local news cameraman alerted Police to a man caught urinating in a public parking lot on Front Street in Hamilton. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo heard that Police observed Trott with his pants unfastened while urinating.

Trott told Mr. Tokunbo he had been to an event in Dockyard and wanted desperately to relieve himself before getting into his car because he suffers from a prostate cancer problem.

Mr. Tokunbo gave Trott an absolute discharge and said: "Next time take a leak away from the Police and the public.

Hungry man stole two packages of meat

Stealing two packages of meat from a supermarket cost a man $500 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft.

Troy Walker, 46, of Pembroke, was arrested on July 23 after a store manager at Lindo's Family Foods in Warwick observed him concealing a package of meat under his helmet.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo heard that when the store manager attempted to apprehend Walker after he left the store without paying for the meat, he dropped another package of meat and escaped.

Walker, who is unemployed, told Mr. Tokunbo that he was hungry and could not get any food from the Salvation Army.
