Religious TV station to be launched
The Seventh Day Adventist Church is to launch a 24-hour television station next week in the hope of providing ?uplifting and inspiring? religious programming to the community.
The cable television initiative, which is to be shown on channel 80, will be operated by the Bermuda conference for Seventh Day Adventists and will be officially unveiled at the denomination?s headquarters on King Street, Hamilton tomorrow.
?This channel will help to fulfil the need for more Christian broadcasting on the Island,? said Bermuda conference president Dr. Jeffrey Brown.
?We are extremely pleased for the opportunity to enrich our community with family-orientated programming.?
Meanwhile, communications director Sheila Holder revealed there would be a broad variety of shows on the channel, ranging from church services both in Bermuda and abroad to storytelling for children and a number of healthy living segments.
?The channel is being funded entirely by the Bermuda Conference and there will be no commercial advertising,? she said.
?To my knowledge this is the first locally based Christian television channel so we are all very excited about it and hopefully it will be enjoyed.?
Disabled vessel rescued
Marine Police towed a disabled vessel in from near Daniel?s Head on Wednesday night, Harbour Radio said.
Bermuda Harbour Radio was notified just after nightfall of a small boat with four people onboard anchored near the wreck of the ?Vixen? near Daniel?s Head.
There were no responses to radio broadcasts for assistance, so Marine Police attended, and towed the disabled vessel safely into Riddell?s Bay.
Six units planned for Surfside
Bermuda Resort Hotels have received Planning permission to build six residential units by converting three existing and three approved tourist units at a lot east of Surfside in Paget.
Planning permission granted for antenna
Bermuda Harbour Radio has received Planning permission to build a 48-foot high tower in order to support a new 19-foot high radar antenna.
Prior to a building permit being issued the Department of Telecommunications must be satisfied that the new tower does not release harmful electromagnetic fields.
The antenna will give Harbour Radio greater range. The new antenna will be higher than the last one, which was damaged in Hurricane Fabian.
Police seek accident witnesses
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the accident on Crow Lane in Paget on Friday morning to come forward.
Police spokesman Dwaine Caines said the serious single vehicle road traffic collision ? resulting in injury ? occurred around 6.25 a.m.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact Police Constable Michael Butcher on 295-0011.
