Bermuda Shorts: Dishwasher warning
The Consumer Affairs Department is advising the public of a recall on General Electric Company dishwashers which can burst into flames.
The machines were made with electronics which may short out, overheat and catch fire if one of the connectors to the control is heavily contaminated with dishwashing detergent solution in normal use.
The public is advised to stop using machine made after January 20, 2004 in the following models: GSD550G, GSD5560G, GSD5800G, GSD5900G, GSD5960G, with the serial numbers with the first letter A through T and the second letter G or the serial letters VF.
The serial number is important as not all dishwashers with these model numbers are included in the recall. The model number and the serial number can be found on the front left side of the dishwasher tub.
There is a free replacement control kit being provided by General Electric.
Consumers with one of the suspect machines can call the HWP service department for the kit or contact General Electric directly.
