Breaking News: Maybury found hiding in a wooden shed

Caught Alvone Maybury

Fugitive Alvone Maybury was found by Police in a wooden shed behind a home in The Glebe Road, Pembroke, at 1.20 p.m today.

Maybury, 24, is now in custody at Hamilton Police Station after two weeks on the run.

According to Acting Detective Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell: “Alvone was taken into custody without any resistance.”

A young man and a young woman, who Police have declined to identify, were with him and have also been arrested.

Maybury ran away from prison officers outside Magistrates’ Court on July 13 after being charged with three gun offences.

Hours later he was posting messages on his Facebook page about life on the run — and hit the headlines around the world.

Mr. Cardwell said this afternoon: “I’m pleased to report that Police did manage to arrest Alvone Maybury. He was found secreted in a residence on Glebe Road. He was arrested with another young man and young lady and he’s now at Hamilton Police Station.

“He was actually in a wooden structure behind the official residence with these two individuals. He was found hiding in a wooden shed.”

Maybury was wearing handcuffs when he fled from officers on July 13, but Mr. Cardwell said he was no longer wearing them when Police found him.

Asked what shape the fugitive was found in, he replied: “He doesn’t look any the worse for it. He looks healthy.”

Homes on The Glebe Road were searched to no avail on Friday evening. According to Mr. Cardwell, Maybury was found at a home “very close” to the house that had been the main focus of Police attention that night.
