Cricket star faces drugs trial

Former St. George's Cup Match captain Gregg Foggo will be tried in October ion charged iof possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Foggo, of Maid's Lane, St. George's, pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of cannabis with the intent to supply on May 26.

Foggo, 33, who also maintained his innocence of possessing any cannabis on the same date, was represented in court by lawyer Charles Richardson.

Foggo was released on $3,000 bail with one surety until his trial date on October 11.

Another local man, Everest John Trott of Redcoat Lane, St. George's was also charged with possession of cannabis.

Trott, who is currently in Police custody for another matter, pleaded guilty to drug possession on November 6, 2004.

Police had approached Trott, 27, for an unrelated matter and decided to search him after he appeared to be nervous. He was found to have 2.73 grams of cannabis in his pocket.

As this was Trott's first drug conviction, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave him to a $600 fine.

Miami Beach, Florida resident Scott William Shane was also given a fine after admitting to being in possession of cannabis on July 1.

Shane, 39, came in to the Island on a commercial flight that day and was searched by Customs after a drug detection dog alerted officers.

Shane was sweating and very fidgety during inspection and while being patted down an object was dropped. Shane told officers it was pot. They also found a second plastic bag on Shane containing dried mushrooms.

Shane was taken to the Police station and it was found that he had been carrying 6.38 grams of cannabis.

Mr. Warner fined Shane $1,000 for the offence.
