Cruise ship season extended
The cruise ship season has been extended until the end of November with an additional ten cruise ship stops scheduled to bring in more than 30,000 visitors to the Island.
And discussions are underway to extend ?Destination Dockyard? during that month to tempt visitors to open their wallets.
November?s scheduled arrivals is more than double that of the same month last year and includes two ?mega? cruise ships.
?Destination Dockyard?, consisting of vendors, live entertainment, food stalls and a beach party at the Snorkel Park, comes to an end on September 27 to accommodate the Music Festival in October.
The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce is discussing the possibility of organising ?Destination Dockyard? in November when the majority of these ships will be berthed at Dockyard.
Chamber executive vice-president Diane Gordon said yesterday the Chamber was looking at the possibility of having the event on a smaller scale, possibly inside the Clock Tower.
As for the East End of the Island, St. George?s Market Nights also comes to an end on September 27 and Mayor E. Michael Jones said he was excited at the prospect of luring the thousands of cruise ship passengers to St. George?s.
Three of these cruise ships will be calling in Bermuda for the first time, including , famous for being the only private community at sea with 106 private apartments, 19 studio apartments and 40 studios that come with a price tag from $1.3 million to $7.5 million.
Most of the 19 one- and two-bedroom studio apartments are available for rent with a minimum stay of six nights at a whopping $1,500 a night.
This floating ?city? comes with its own shopping centre, library and medical centre complete with an x-ray department and emergency facilities where doctors and nurses are on call 24 hours a day.
She will be berthed in Hamilton during her stay from November 4 to November 7.
Two other first-time callers to our shores are the 108,806 ton with a passenger capacity of 3,100 and 1,100 crew and the with a passenger capacity of 1,996 and 920 crew.
Except for , which will be docked in Hamilton and the 68,000 ton which will remain anchored overnight, all other cruise ships will berth in Dockyard due to their enormous size.
The will return to Bermuda twice in November with a passenger capacity of 3,838 passengers and 1,176 crew, as will the with a passenger capacity of 2,446 and 760 crew.
