Five injured in weekend accidents

A 34-year-old Devonshire man reportedly sustained serious head injuries after a crash with two other motorcyclists on Friday night.

The accident appears to have been a result of the man riding while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Police said yesterday they arrested the injured Devonshire man for suspicion of impaired driving.

After the accident he was taken to King Edward Memorial VII for treatment. He was released on Saturday.

At 9.35 on Friday night Police attended the three-vehicle collision on Parsons Lane in Devonshire. According to their report, the Devonshire man was on a Honda motorcycle travelling east on Parsons Lane when it was in collision with a Malaguti auxiliary cycle and a Yamaha motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 17-year-old Devonshire man, and the rider of the Yamaha, a 19-year-old Warwick man each injured their right arms.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident. Anyone with information should call PC Anthony Bartley on 295-0011.

In another accident, two teenaged boys were lucky not to be seriously injured in an early morning crash yesterday.

Police said they attended an accident on the North Shore Road in Pembroke near the junction with Studio Lane at 12.05 yesterday morning.

Their report said that it appeared that a Peugeot auxiliary cycle was travelling east on North Shore Road with a Honda cycle travelling behind it in the same direction.

When the 17-year-old male rider of the Peugeot attempted to turn right into the Bethel AME Church parking lot, the other rider also 17, overtook and collided.

Both men were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for minor injuries and released. Their cycles were damaged, the Honda extensively.
